A Bit About Me

Laptop & Coffee

In India the Muslim child is taught to read and recite the Holy Quran. My father studied 12 years to become an Imam. He moved to a Government job. When he took me to the local Imam to learn reading and reciting the Holy Quran, at the age of 5  I asked the local Imam whether he would teach me Arabic, the language of the Holy Quran. He answered he cannot teach me Arabic. I declined to learn just to read and recite the Holy Quran without understanding it.

Even now at an age of 70+ I do not know to read Arabic. However from 1963 I read English translations of the Holy Quran. In 1984 while visiting the Asian Institute of Technology I found a copy of the translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. This translation was approved by the Islamic authorities of Madina as authentic in 1991.

The Holy Quran is like a hologram. Even a part of it gives guidance. As one reads the Holy Quran again and again, there is more understanding of Islam as the concepts are distributed on every topic and not written as a text book at one place.

I received the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree as a student of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, Tamilnadu, India in 1968 and the PhD in Computer Science & Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India under the guidance of Prof. V. Rajaraman in 1974.

I worked in Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India; King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Crecent Engineering College, Chennai, India, and Framingham State College, Framingham Massachusetts, USA. I retired in 2003.
